Workshop
What’s the Heights Writers’ Workshop?
A workshop is a weekend-long session about your own work and the works of your co-fellows in poetry, fiction, or creative non-fiction. Our 10 accepted fellows sit down for sessions with seasoned writers, called panelists, who discuss the submitted work and suggest ways by which the fellow can improve on his craft. You will also get to bond with other fellows who are just as interested in writing as you are. Aside from the sessions, we also hold informal writing exercises wherein participants create their own work based on a fun theme. Over the years, these sessions have borne many a literary work that have gone on to be published in Heights, win awards, and beyond. Many of our fellows have also gone on to win writing awards, fellowships to higher workshops, and publish their own books. If names like Edgar Samar or Mookie Katigbak ring a bell, it’s because they started out as Heights Workshop fellows, too. Today, they are among our long list of distinguished writers who have now served as panelists to the Heights workshop, joining the ranks of Benilda Santos, Luna Sicat-Cleto and Danton Remoto.
Who can apply to the Workshop?
ABSOLUTELY ANYONE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN THE ATENEO.
You do NOT have to be a Heights member to apply to the workshop. You also do NOT need to have any previous connection with Heights to apply to the workshop. Neither do you need loads of experience to be eligible to apply (in fact, many of our past fellows had their first ever experience with writing workshops with us). As long as you love writing and have a few poems/stories/essays you’re willing to share with us, you are TOTALLY welcome to apply. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.
The BEST thing about Workshop
It is absolutely all-expense paid. From transportation to accomodation to meals to workshop materials, Heights will cover EVERYTHING.
